49.8.1 The Sandbar - Life goes on

I was down at the Sandbar last night. I look going down there after a hot day in the kitches, hanging out, listening to the sound of the ocean and feeling the brezze as it comes in off the sea. I was sipping on a Fruity Iced Klah when Lyss showed up.

Lyss is the Assistant Headwoman, and as such is my... boss? Well someone who I report to. We had a nice talk. Other than working in the kitchens with her (which are always busy) where we mostly exchange quick comments about work, and the short conversation we had when I first arrived at Ista, I haven't really talked to her much. I find her pleasent. We talked about the Fall a little (she, like many here, didn't seem to want to discuss it much) and then the conversation turned toward lighter topics like cooking, gardening, and our lives at home... at least until Jascela showed up.
Today Jascela wears a casual crop-top and short trouser outfit. The top is sleeveless with a collared neckline that plunges downwards enough to more than hint at her ample cleavage. The light linen material has been dyed blue, although a couple shades lighter than could be consider a true Harper blue. Large wooden buttons stained a raw umber provide both functionality and decoration. The hem of the top ends just below her bosom, showing off her flat well toned abdomen. Riding low on her hips is a pair of light salmon hued trousers whose legs end just below her knees. A darker, raw umber tanned hide belt offsets the lighter tan color of the trousers. Matching woven sandals adorn her feet. Her arms are very muscular, decorated by a wide bronze band clasped around each bicep. Her shoulder is knotless at the moment.
The conversation got a bit humorus at this point
"Jarill's helping out in the kitchen," Lyss adds informatively, if uselessly. Searching for a more fruitful topic, she adds belatedly, "Anyhow, please do join us!"

Jarill shake's Jascela's hand and then sits back down, "Thanks! Yup, I work for Lyss", he says with a grin.

Jascela sits down beside Jarill and leans over to peer at Lyss thoughtfully. "Oh, really? How exciting..."

Lyss hastily corrects, looking rather uncomfortable. "Well, not -for- me exactly. Just... under me?" she suggests, fidgeting. "Or something like that."

Jascela's eyes widen at the rephrasing and her grin grows even wider. "Oh, really? Now that sounds even more interesting..." SHe winks teasingly across at the young assistant Headwoman.

Jarill chuckles, and then enjoying the turn of the conversation, decides to stay out of it for a minute by lifting his glass and taking a drink, setting it down with an innocent look on his face.

Lyss shoots a hapless glance at Jarill for his chuckle. "With me," she rephrases again. "He works with me. In the same place." Squirming slightly she buries her gaze in her glass instead, sipping it with great focus.

Jascela grins amusedly and nods as she picks up her mug for a long drink. "I see... Ah, well."

Jarill decides the best thing to do is back Lyss up on this, "Yeah... the same place. Just a couple of kitchen workers out for a drink", he says with a wink. [Ok... maybe this isn't going well, but he's not sure what else to do. :)]

Lyss keeps her attention trained on her glass. "Exactly. Just out for a dri--Well, not for a drink, just juice," she clarifies quickly, glancing up at both Jarill and Jascela.

Jascela giggles softly and looks down at Lyss' drink, then over at Jarill's drink. "Just juice? Not even wine? Now that's definitely a shameful waste of our dear bartender's time."
I'm laughing just thinking back on it. OK... maybe I was enjoying Lyss'... discomfort?... a little too much, but it was a harmless fun conversation. I find that quite a bit here. Well that or intense arguments. Maybe that part of the life at a weyr.

A bit after that Jascela got called away. Lyss and I fininished our drinks, and then since both of us have to get up at the crack of dawn, we left and headed back to the weyr and then I headed to the dorms.

All in all a pleasant evening.
